Abstract

The main objective of this bibliographic and observational research is to determine the use of ICTs as a learning resource to improve reading comprehension. This study was conducted for students in the sixth year of General Basic Education of the Educational Unit “5 de Octubre” of the Echeandía Canton in Ecuador. The study methodology used in this research was the mixed approach, the method used for data collection was the interview for the teacher and the observation form for the students. The analysis of the results indicated that there is a quite noticeable deficiency in the students, since they have difficulties in understanding the texts read and interpreting what they mean, as well as in developing oral language, this is due to the lack of implementation of creative methodologies by the teacher. On the other hand, it is important to mention that sometimes teachers do not have access to the use of technology, which drastically impedes the implementation of innovative methodologies during the development of classes. Thus, it is concluded that, in order to improve the development of reading comprehension of teachers, the use of technological tools (ICT'S) should be used, thus not only improving critical, analytical and fluid reasoning, but also awakening the motivation and interest of students, so that they can perform positively in academic training.
