Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic brought with it a significant increase in the use of technological devices, such as computers, tablets and smartphones. This increase in screen time has had a direct impact on the visual health of adults. Aim. Identify the use of digital screens during the COVID-19 Pandemic and visual symptoms in adults, Babahoyo los Ríos 2024. Methodology; This study is a quantitative observational, descriptive, cross-sectional, field study, in a sample of 225 beneficiaries. Results: According to the results obtained, it is evident that adults. Results. The information received from the study sample showed a significant increase in the time of exposure to digital devices, with 52% of the participants using screens between 4 to 6 hours a day and 36% more than 6 hours a day. This prolonged use was related to the appearance of several visual symptoms, the most common being red eyes (24.9%), eye pain (20%), pruritus (18.2%), photophobia (13.3%), blurred vision (12.4%), and dry eyes along with foreign body sensation (11.1%).

The study found that many adults with visual problems were not using adequate protection and that some uncorrected ametropias were worsened by excessive screen use. Glasses were given to the 225 adults who needed correction
