Abstract

The present study aims to evaluate the needs and challenges faced by independent journalists in the province of Los Ríos in order to develop an effective monetization platform. A mixed methodology was adopted, which included quantitative research through structured surveys of 10 journalists and qualitative research through interviews that reflect diverse experiences in both digital and traditional media. The results indicate that 60% of the respondents already have some source of income, although there is considerable interest in diversifying these options. Potential monetization models were identified, such as subscriptions, donations, local advertising, and the sale of digital products.

The conclusions suggest that creating this platform can empower journalists by providing them with tools to generate sustainable income, which would in turn contribute to greater informational diversity in the region. Additionally, the importance of offering training in the use of technological tools and monetization strategies is emphasized. The implementation of this proposal is presented as a viable solution to strengthen the independence and quality of journalism in Los Ríos while improving access to relevant information for the community.
