Abstract

The objective of this research was based on describing teaching strategies to develop critical thinking in higher basic education students about Ecuadorian culture in an institution in the year 2023, through a methodology with a mixed approach by applying interviews to 4 managers from various institutions and a survey of 20 teachers from an institution. As a result of the survey applied to teachers, it was obtained that there are low levels of critical thinking in students in the eighth year of upper basic education. Regarding the dimensions studied within the survey, the information, the inference of implications, the various proposals for alternative solutions and their arguments were analyzed. All of these aspects mentioned are necessary skills to be able to develop critical thinking and ensure that students are able to analyze, reason, draw conclusions, solve problems and make decisions. Regarding the interview carried out with the managers, it was exposed that it is of great importance to develop critical thinking in educational institutions in the various existing courses, carrying out periodic evaluations to evaluate the effectiveness of the strategies applied, and for the teacher to be trained. if necessary for the use of new teaching strategies.
