Abstract
The present project, evaluation of the nutritional status and cardiometabolic risk by waist/height ratio in schoolchildren, detailed the percentage of obesity, overweight and malnutrition in children from 5 years to 11 years of age from different schools and this was related to the quality of breakfast that each child consumes daily before entering school. We know that children grow constantly and do so at different rates. To carry out the respective measurements, the BMI percentiles were used, with which the growth of each child was observed in relation to their age and sex, to interpret whether they were within normal growth parameters.
Overweight, obesity and malnutrition are very serious health conditions that affect children physically and mentally, as well as having a great impact on their self-esteem. Obesity and overweight in children are the result of a sedentary lifestyle when they get home and concentrate on electronic devices; Likewise, the high consumption of ultra-processed products, foods with a high amount of salt, sugar and fats that are consumed mostly in educational institutions, where there is no restriction when purchasing them in school bars, which is why they have the freedom to consume whatever they want and whatever is within their reach. On the other hand, there are children who do not have the means to buy food outside the home and most of them do not eat breakfast at home due to different factors that will be detailed in this study.
