Abstract
In 2016, the correlation between maternal education level and nutritional status of children aged 0 to 3 years in Salasaka, Tungurahua, Ecuador, was analyzed. A total of 215 children were evaluated, and information was collected from 212 mothers. The results showed that 15% of the children were underweight, 31% had stunted growth, 13% were malnourished, and 4% were overweight. A strong relationship was highlighted between the mothers' education level and the children's nutrition, with approximately half of the mothers having only primary education. This highlights the need to implement educational programs in nutrition. The study concludes that investing in women's education and promoting health and nutrition programs targeted at mothers with educational limitations is crucial. The challenges in child nutrition in Salasaka are significant, affecting a substantial proportion of the infant population. The research emphasized the direct influence of maternal education level on children's health, underscoring the importance of a collaborative and multidisciplinary approach to tackle these nutritional challenges. Improving child nutrition requires educational programs in nutrition and the empowerment of mothers through education, involving governments, non-governmental organizations, and the community as a whole.
