Seroconversion of HIV in newborns in the vertical transmission of positive mothers

Abstract

Vertical transmission is considered to the spread of the virus of HIV from an HIV-positive mother to child during pregnancy, birth or breastfeeding. Studies established that the overall rate of Vertical transmission (TV) is 1.9%, and the extensive use of the therapy antiretroviral highly active combined (TARGA) have a high impact on the reduction of TV. The objective of this study is to identify the time of HIV seroconversion in the newborn infants’ hospital Teófilo Dávila de Machala, Ecuador. HIV results in the three tests of control of the newborns, were negative, there are no seroconversion to HIV. HIV positive mothers didn’t give lactating to their newborns and received treatment antiretroviral TARGA either during pregnancy or in childbirth. Compliance with the Protocol of care issued by the Ministry of public health to pregnant women with HIV, such as management of birth through caesarean section, the administration of antiretroviral drugs and not breastfeeding, allowed the effectiveness of the prevention of vertical transmission in the perinatal exposed
