Abstract

At this research being characterized the mechanical properties of a composite material made by coconut fiber and epoxy resin matrix. By an experimental evaluation of tensile, bending and hardness. All tests were developed based on the ASTM standards 3039, 7264 and D5628 respectively. Through the manufacture of specimens and manual stratification of a thermosetting composite matrix, reinforced with long fibers with 90 °, 0 °, and -90 ° orientation, volumetric variation of the fiber of 25.30% and 40%, Also, the volumetric variation of the resin of 60.65% and 70% of coconut fiber and epoxy resin matrix. The influence of the matrix mass ratio on the properties of tensile strength, impact resistance and bending was analyzed. On the results of the impact analysis was noted that the two configurations, of 2 and 3 layers of fiber, have the same energy absorption capacity, generating a hypothesis that this energy does not depend on the number of layers of fiber. The bigger effort corresponds to 3-layer coconut fiber configuration specimens with 60% volumetric fraction at epoxy resin.
