Abstract
Brain plasticity is one of the most important neurobiological mechanisms for child development, defined as the nervous system's capacity to reorganize, adapt, and modify its structure and function in response to internal and external experiences. This research analyzes the influence of brain plasticity on child development at Ecomundo Babahoyo School during the 2024 academic year, through a systematic review of current neuroscience literature and its application to the Ecuadorian educational context. The study identifies two main types of plasticity: synaptic, which modifies the strength of existing neuronal connections through long-term potentiation and depression processes, and structural, which encompasses the formation of new neurons, connections, and reorganization of brain architecture. During the first eight years of life, the brain establishes approximately one quadrillion synaptic connections, making this a critical period for cognitive, emotional, and motor development. The results demonstrate that the expression of brain plasticity results from a complex interaction between genetic and environmental factors. Variables such as sensory stimulation, nutrition, affective experiences, stress levels, and access to learning opportunities significantly modulate brain development. Analysis of cases such as cerebral palsy demonstrates that early therapeutic interventions based on neuroplasticity principles can generate substantial functional improvements. It is concluded that a critical gap exists between neuroscientific knowledge and its practical application in educational contexts. Accessible strategies are proposed to enhance brain plasticity, including play-based early education, physical activity, balanced nutrition, and emotionally safe environments, with direct implications for educational and public health policies in Ecuador.
