Abstract

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy is a frequent, severe, non-hematologic side effect that arises as a result of damage to the nerves responsible for sensitivity and, in some cases, mobility. The implementation of dosed physical exercise has proven to be an effective strategy to mitigate these adverse effects, contributing to improve patients' quality of life. The aim of this research was to analyze the effects of physical exercise on peripheral neuropathy caused by chemotherapy. For this purpose, the guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses methodology were followed. The databases used for study selection were Medline, Scopus and Cochrane. Seven randomized clinical trials met the inclusion criteria for detailed analysis. The results showed a significant improvement in pain control and sensory symptoms in patients who participated in a regulated exercise program compared to those who received conventional care. In addition, an increase in patients' confidence and autonomy was observed, allowing them to resume their daily activities in a more normalized manner. Although the benefits of exercise during chemotherapy are promising, the evidence on its impact is still limited. Future studies with larger sample size, longer duration, long-term follow-up and inclusion of other neurotoxic drugs in the analysis are recommended.
