Efficacy of an omega-3 soluble diet in rheumatoid arthritis

Abstract
Among the benefits of a diet with optimal levels of Omega-3 fatty acids (n-3 PUFA) is the reduction of joint activity and pain in RA, and slowing progression to more advanced forms of the disease. The PUFA-3 are polyunsaturated fatty acids found mainly in fish, nuts and seeds. The term omega-3 refers to the location of the first terminal double bond of the fatty acid, whereby the first double bond is 3 carbon atoms away from the terminal end of the fatty acid. According to studies, n-3 PUFA are precursors of pro-resolving and inflammatory mediators of the immune response, especially resolvins, protectins and maresins, which could explain their anti-inflammatory effect in RA. Likewise, the increase in the proportion of AGPn-3 in the cell membrane would be related to the modulation of the innate and acquired immune response, decreasing the translocation of nuclear factor kappa B (NFkB) responsible for the production of the cytokines TNF-a which plays an important role in inflammation and interleukins (IL) which are increased in patients with RA.
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA), a chronic form of arthritis, is classified within the autoimmune rheumatic diseases. Rheumatoid arthritis is characterized as a progressive disease that causes inflammation of the joints and surrounding tissues, and reduced quality of life for individuals who suffer from it. At present, there is no cure, however, different.
