Abstract

This study investigates innovative strategies for the sustainable management of clinical laboratories, essential in medical diagnosis and treatment, and its relationship with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3. Faced with the growing demand for diagnostic tests and the need for more sustainable practices , this work addresses how innovation can improve the efficiency, quality and environmental sustainability of clinical laboratories. Using the PRISMA 2020 Declaration as a methodological framework to ensure systematic and transparent research, a detailed protocol was designed that guided the search and analysis of relevant studies. This review considered both internal and external factors that affect the implementation of innovative strategies, including regulations, technological advances, and organizational culture. The importance of energy efficient equipment, advanced waste management and optimization of sample processing was highlighted. The results reveal that the adoption of emerging technologies, such as automation, digitalization, and the use of renewable energy, offers significant opportunities to improve sustainability in laboratories. These technologies can reduce energy and materials use, waste, and environmental impact. However, successful implementation depends on several factors, including financial support, staff training, and a cultural change within organizations. In conclusion, the research suggests that to achieve more sustainable clinical laboratories and meet SDG 3, it is essential to integrate innovative strategies and emerging technologies.
