Effect of Isoflavones on Climacterium: A systematic review
Downloads
Abstract
Climacteric is a stage of women's life characterized by a decrease in the production of sex hormones that can be associated with various symptoms and health problems. The aim of this systematic review article is to analyze the effects of isoflavones in climacteric and to evaluate their effectiveness as a therapeutic alternative. The PRISMA method was applied for the systematic review and two research questions were formulated. Search and inclusion strategies were established for relevant studies and studies that did not meet the inclusion criteria were excluded. The results show that isoflavone supplementation may have beneficial effects on quality of life, cardiovascular health, bone mineral density, cognitive function, and mental health in women at menopause. However, divergences were found in some studies. This systematic review article concludes that isoflavone supplementation may be an effective alternative therapy to improve the quality of life and health of women in the climacteric period. Further studies on the effects of isoflavones on mental health and quality of life during the climacteric are recommended, as well as studies comparing the effects of different types of isoflavones and evaluating the long-term effects of isoflavone supplementation in the climacteric.
