Conocimientos sobre lactancia materna en madres de niños menores de 2 años de edad de la Universidad Técnica de Babahoyo

Abstract

Breastfeeding is the process by which the mother feeds her child through her breasts, and which should be the baby's main food at least until two years of age; Therefore, breast milk becomes the ideal diet because in addition to being safe, it provides essential nutrients for optimal growth and cognitive and physical development and also protects the child from childhood diseases. To determine the knowledge about breastfeeding in mothers of children under 2 years of age at the Technical University of Babahoyo. Observational, descriptive study with a quantitative approach to 247 women from the university community, with children under 2 years of age and who are being breastfed. Knowledge about breastfeeding was measured, this information was obtained through an online survey in Google Forms, the information was tabulated and organized in graphs and statistical tables in Microsoft Excel 2010. Students with children under 2 years of age prevailed among the women from the university community with 93.5%, mothers had an accurate response (47.1%) to the fact that breast milk should be offered at the child's request and not impose schedules. 82.1% of mothers indicated that they knew what colostrum was. More than half of the mothers surveyed know about the advantages of breastfeeding; Likewise, regarding the recommended time for breastfeeding.
