Abstract
Natural disasters caused by climate change have shown the importance of preparing for these events, this paper analyzes the perception of the population of the Montalvo Canton about the impact of flooding and the risk management measures implemented by the mayor's office in this regard. regard. Being an exploratory-descriptive work, as an instrument a survey of fifteen questions applied to a sample of the active population of the inhabitants of the Montalvo canton is used. The results indicate that there is widespread concern about quality of life in relation to flooding and that most people have experienced a flood in the last two years. The importance of effective flood risk management and the need to improve communication and community education on this issue are highlighted. Also improving the response and inter-institutional collaboration to minimize the impact of floods in the community. It is concluded that resilience to floods can be improved by increasing the confidence of citizens, through education, awareness and training of the population. The impact of the risk management plan can be measured in terms of reducing the loss of life and property, lessening the economic impact, and promoting the resilience of communities. It should be an ongoing, adaptive and flexible process, with regular updates to the plan as environmental conditions and natural hazards change.
