Factores socioeconómicos y culturales asociados al embarazo en adolescentes

Abstract

Teenage pregnancy is not a consciously sought after fact because it generates an existential crisis in adolescents who are not prepared to assume the role of mothers. Low socioeconomic status, low educational level, and a more conservative culture, among other factors, prevent adolescents from responsibly exercising their reproductive rights. The objective is to be able to determine the relationship between socioeconomic and cultural factors in adolescent pregnancy with the application of an instrument validated by health experts. The research design was quantitative, a type of field research, descriptive and cross-sectional cohort was used. The population was 100 pregnant adolescents and mothers, applying a pilot plan to 20 of them. An instrument consisting of 24 items validated by health experts was developed, qualifying validity, relevance and coherence. It was found that socioeconomic and cultural factors are related to pregnancy in adolescence due to low economic status and educational level, lack of communication between parents and daughters and social pressure. It was determined that there is a close relationship between socioeconomic and cultural factors with teenage pregnancy due to testimonies provided by women affected by social criticism about the pregnancy situation; the socioeconomic factor influences the planning of life projects; As a consequence, it is likely that those affected suffer from an inability to interact with society for fear of rejection.
