Riesgo a desastres naturales en regiones de Argentina (2003-2015)

Abstract

This work aims to examine the multi-hazard risk from natural disasters in regions of Argentina. Considering that risk is defined based on the elements of hazard, exposure and vulnerability, a risk index is constructed for the 2003-2015 period. The information comes from the records of the Disaster Inventory System (DesInventar), which are complemented by information from EM-DAT and the Dartmouth Flood Observatory. The results suggest that the greatest risk to natural disasters corresponds to Greater Buenos Aires, while the lowest level of risk to the Patagonia and Cuyo regions. The differences, however, may not be representative considering the presence of disaster sub-registry bias in peripheral regions.
