Características sociodemográficas y clínicas asociadas a la infección parasitaria intestinal en los habitantes de la comuna Joa y Chade del Cantón Jipijapa

Abstract

Intestinal parasites are diseases caused by protozoa and helminths that affect more than 2 billion people in the world population and constitute a public health problem. In order to determine the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics associated with the parasitic infection in the inhabitants of the Chade and Joa communes of the Jipijapa Canton, Ecuador; a descriptive, prospective, non-experimental and cross-sectional study was carried out in 169 inhabitants of the Chade commune and 194 of the Joa commune. The samples were analyzed by direct examination (with SSF 0.85% and Lugol) and formalin technique (ParaTest); additionally, surveys were applied to know the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of the participants. A prevalence of intestinal parasites of 57.4% (97/169) was obtained in the Chade commune and in the Joa commune of 56.7% (110/194). The main parasitic species identified were (Chade / Joa): Entamoeba Complex 18.3% / 11.3% and Blastocystis spp. 18.3% / 23.7%. It is suggested to apply preventive measures, permanent health education at the family level and periodic antiparasitic treatment in order to improve the health of the population.
