Abstract

Respiratory physiotherapy is a set of practices, techniques, instruments and procedures that apply to a variety of diseases, especially lung or respiratory-related diseases, whether chronic or critical of other pathologies, such as cancer and COVID 19. It has been particularly important in critical cases because its objectives are to restore and optimize respiratory function, achieve adequate gas exchange and improve the ventilation with perfusion or exchange ratio between the gases required for the body and blood. Through a documentary and bibliographic review, this article reviews the most important foundations and techniques of respiratory physiotherapy. It is concluded with the reaffirmation of the usefulness and relevance of the application of these procedures, as well as their importance for respiratory re-education and the assumption of the autonomy of patients through adequate training through plans involving those affected by respiratory diseases and caregivers.
